OUR PILLARS

A House Built On The Ways of Jesus

A House Built On The Ways of Jesus

We submit our lives to the word of God and recognize that the Spirit of God living inside of us is what enables us to walk in the ways of Jesus and be fully alive in Him.

01/ WORD & SPIRIT

The brilliance of Jesus is evident in the wisdom that was revealed in and through his life, which surpassed all human understanding and experience. We believe that the mind is a gift that is designed to carry the intelligence of God. When our minds are submitted to His Spirit, we can participate in seeing Jesus touch all of humanity.

02/ WISDOM & INTELLIGENCE

We believe that living a surrendered life moves us to a place where we are compelled by compassion to love and serve humanity. In all that we do, we seek to bring healing, redemption and restoration to people in our daily lives and the city we live in.

03/ MISSIONAL

We aim to be a multi-dimensional community – ethnically, culturally and generationally – who live surrendered to God and gather around the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.

04/ COMMUNITY

We are disciples of Jesus and seek to make disciples who are dynamic, creative, thoughtful and full of the power of God, which is made evident in and through their lives.

05/ DISCIPLES

We believe that every human is created in the image of God, and that the ability to create flows from the very nature of our existence. Each of us has the privilege to express who God is by creating something beautiful from the material of our lives. We long to see a renaissance take place in every area of society: from the arts and music to business, our homes and the cities we live in.

06/ CREATE

We understand that culture is a glimpse into the soul of humanity that expresses its very material and essence. We believe that Jesus understood the culture he lived in and was able to effectively transform it to reflect His nature in a way that touched all of humanity.

07/ CULTURE

Studio is a place where beautiful things happen and beautiful things are created.

No matter where you come from, Studio is a place to call home where you can belong before you believe. From our weekly gatherings to the ways we connect throughout the week, we seek to create a culture where God’s presence is tangible, where beautiful things happen and beautiful things are created.

From Greenville to the nations, we’re a multi-dimensional community of people who walk in the ways of Jesus and are fully alive in Him. Our heart is to remain curious about the wonder of God, to live our lives fully surrendered to Him and to live out truth together so that the soul of humanity might experience the fullness of Jesus in every area of life.

In all that we do, we seek to intentionally create spaces and places where people can experience God, be shaped by His love and engage in life on life relationships. We recognize that there are unique gifts, talents, and ideas inside of each of us, and strive to be an incubator where they can come to life to create the future. This is Studio.

We are a people who remain curious about the depth, mystery and endless wonder of who our creator God is. We are created in the image of God, therefore our ability to create is directly connected to our existence. We use the raw and divine material of our lives to create and cultivate something beautiful. We remain curious with culture, as it offers us a glimpse into the soul of humanity. Jesus understood culture, lived wholeheartedly and was able to effectively create a different culture which touched all of humanity.

We are Curious disciples.

Our Beliefs

  • 01/ ABOUT GOD

There is one God, who is infinitely perfect, existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

    Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 5:48, Matthew 28:19, 2 Corinthians 6:18

  • 02/ ABOUT JESUS

Jesus Christ is the true God and the true man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He died upon the cross, the Just for the unjust, as a substitutionary sacrifice, and all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood. He arose from the dead according to the Scriptures. He is now at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to establish His kingdom, righteousness, and peace.

    Philippians 2:6-11, Luke 1:34-38, I Peter 3:18, Hebrews 2:9, Romans 5:9, Acts 2:23-24, Hebrews 8:1, Matthew 26:64

  • 03/ ABOUT HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is a divine person, sent to dwell, guide, teach, empower the believer, and convince the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment.

In the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live holy and minister like Jesus did. The baptism of the Holy Spirit according to Acts 1:4-8 and 2:4 is poured out on believers that they might have power to be witnesses.

    John 14:15-18, John 16:13, Acts 1:8, John 16:7-11, Acts 1:4-8, 2:4

  • 04/ ABOUT THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT

We believe that the Gifts of the Spirit are for believers and the church today.

    I Cor. 12:1-11, Romans 12:3-8, Ephesians 4:7-16

  • 05/ ABOUT THE BIBLE

We believe the Bible to be the inspired and only infallible and authoritative Word of God. The Bible, including both the Old and New Testaments, is a divine revelation, the original autographs of which were verbally inspired by the Holy Spirit.

    2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:21

  • 06/ ABOUT SALVATION

Salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all men; and those who repent and believe in Him are born again of the Holy Spirit, receive the gift of eternal life, and become children of God.

    Titus 3:4-7, John 3:16

  • 07/ ABOUT HUMANITY & SIN

All human beings are created in God’s own likeness and therefore have inherent value and equality before God. Human sin and guilt since the fall have rendered us subject to God’s wrath and condemnation and have resulted in our alienation from God’s life, suppression of God’s truth, and hostility to God’s law. God’s love desires all to come to repentance and to be reconciled rather than condemned. (Langham Partnership statement of Faith)

  • 08/ APOSTLES CREED

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic (universal) Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

    Amen.

  • 09/ NICENE CREED

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.

Who, for us men for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceedeth from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.

I believe in one holy catholic (universal) and apostolic Church.

I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.

    Amen.

Our Story

In the fall of 2020, Eric and Candace Johnson felt a shift regarding their future. At the time, they were the Senior Pastors of Bethel Church in Redding, CA, having served in that role for almost 10 years. In following their heart, they stepped down from this position and stepped into a space where they didn’t know where they were going, but knew it was what they were supposed to do.

As they were transitioning, Eric felt a pull towards the Carolinas, which is funny because they both had never been there. So in January of 2021, they rented a car and spent 8 days driving through both North and South Carolina. They wanted to see different areas but mostly, they just drove around for 8 days with the goal of seeing if a particular area or city was highlighted to them. They thoroughly enjoyed their time in the Carolinas and were captivated by its beauty, people, history, and culture. But there was something about Greenville, South Carolina that stood out to them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you’re a visitor, a regular or are simply curious, here are a few frequently asked questions that will help you get to know Studio better.

  • WHY GREENVILLE?

That is a great question. What's interesting is, Eric and Candace didn't know anything about Greenville, South Carolina until late fall 2020. As they began to visit the city and meet with different people, pastors, and leaders, they fell in love with Greenville. You can read more about the process and journey on the “Our Story” page.

  • WHEN ARE YOUR CHURCH GATHERINGS?

Our weekly community gatherings take place on Sunday at 9am and 11:30am at The Marketplace at Southern Bleachery. The address is 232 Mill Street, Taylors, SC 29687.

  • HOW CAN GET CONNECTED AT STUDIO?

The best way to get connected is by attending our weekly Sunday gatherings and filling out a Connect Card on our Get Connected page. Once you fill out the card, you’ll be kept up to date with the latest events and find ways to get connected with a Studio Homes group.

  • IS THERE A MEMBERSHIP PROCESS FOR JOINING STUDIO?

There is no formal membership at Studio, but there are different levels of engagement in the life of our community. You can simply attend our gatherings or you can be deeply involved with volunteering, hosting a Studio Homes group or serving on a team. To learn more about getting involved, check out our Foundations course.

  • WHAT PART OF GREENVILLE ARE YOU FOCUSING ON AS YOU START THE CHURCH?

Our church office is currently located in the heart of West Greenville and our weekly services are held at The Marketplace @ Southern Bleachery in the old Taylors Mill, just outside of Greenville. We’re inspired by the historic legacy of the old textile mills that surround the city and believe that our church will eventually take shape by bringing life to an old mill building near the downtown Greenville area.

  • WHAT IS YOUR TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC?

We wholeheartedly believe that we are the family of God, and that family is made up of every age of people, as well as a variety of ethnicities and backgrounds. Our belief is we are a better people when we choose to do life and engage with a diverse community of all ages and ethnicities.

  • WHAT KIND OF OUTREACH ARE YOU INVOLVED IN?

We want to be a community of people that live for something beyond ourselves. As we settle into Greenville, we are familiarizing ourselves with the different organizations that are already doing great work in the area and are actively seeking out ways to partner with them. We are also taking time to see what needs and causes we feel a pull towards.

  • WHY DIDN'T ERIC AND CANDACE PLANT A BETHEL IN GREENVILLE?

Eric and Candace were on staff at Bethel for 18 years and were the Senior Pastors of Bethel for 10 years.  As they processed and prayed about the next phase of their life, they felt led to start something new from a blank canvas. They know that they carry the DNA of Bethel, and they also know they have other things in their heart they are eager to explore and express in a new way. This was something that was talked about on a leadership level at Bethel, and both Bethel and STUDIO are excited for what the future holds.
